How Can I Use Analytics to Monitor Biogas System Performance?

The Analytics tool provides valuable insights from Smart Biogas devices, helping you track system performance and detect key events such as leaking, venting, and gas usage. Analytics are available at two levels:

  • Fleet-Level Analytics – Aggregated data for all registered biogas systems.

  • System-Level Analytics – Insights specific to an individual biogas system.

System-Level Analytics

The Analytics page provides a detailed breakdown of an individual biogas system, including:

  • Gas usage, venting, and leakage trends over a selected period.

  • Event history, showing when and how much gas was used, vented, or leaked.

  • Data export options for further analysis.

Fleet-Level Analytics

The Fleet Analytics section offers a high-level view of biogas system performance across your entire organization, including:

  • Total gas usage, venting, and leakage across all digesters.

  • A searchable, filterable list of all biogas systems with their performance data.

Direct access to system analytics—Clicking on any biogas system navigates to its specific analytics page.

All analytics data is derived from the pressure and flow data collected by the smart meter. It does not reflect measured or empirical data but is calculated using the pattern of data received.

Leaks can only be detected if they are downstream of the smart meter. It is calculated by detecting any flows that are lower than the flow rate of a small flame on a single stove burner.

Venting is derived by the pattern of the pressure data received from the smart meter. It looks at the maximum pressure in the digester and detects when the pressure is at a constant value at or near the maximum pressure. This indicates that the digester is full and has started to leak gas to the atmosphere via the pressure relief valve.
